Privacy Policy
Last updated 4 June 2026
Closer is built to get out of the way so the two of you can talk. That goes for your data too. There is no account to create, no profile to fill in, and nothing you say in the game is ever recorded or sent to us. This page explains exactly what that means.
The short version
- No account, no signup, no login.
- No ads, no ad networks, no ad tracking, no advertising identifier (IDFA).
- Your answers and conversations are never recorded, stored, or transmitted. They happen out loud, between two people.
- Usage is measured only as anonymous, aggregate analytics, through a privacy-first service called TelemetryDeck.
- Purchases are handled by Apple; subscriptions are managed through RevenueCat using anonymous purchase data. Closer never sees your payment details.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for, and we do not collect, your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, or precise location. We do not track you across other apps or websites. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and we do not build an advertising profile of you. We never record, store, or read what you and your partner say while playing.
Anonymous analytics
To understand whether the app is working well and which decks people enjoy, Closer uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service designed to be GDPR-compliant and to make it impossible to identify an individual person.
TelemetryDeck receives anonymous, aggregate signals such as: that the app was opened, that a session was started, or that a particular deck was viewed, along with general technical context like the device type and app version. Identifiers are anonymised with a one-way hash, so the data cannot be traced back to you, your device, or your Apple Account.
What TelemetryDeck does not receive: your name or contact details, the answers you give, anything you say during a game, your precise location, or any advertising identifier.
Purchases
Closer offers free decks, one-time deck purchases, and an optional yearly All-Access subscription. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit). Closer never sees or stores your card number or payment details. Your purchases are tied to your Apple Account so that you can restore them on your devices. Apple’s handling of payment data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
To unlock the decks you buy and restore them across your devices, Closer uses RevenueCat, a purchase-management service. RevenueCat receives anonymous purchase and subscription data from Apple, such as which products you bought, the transaction identifiers, and your subscription status, linked to a random, app-generated identifier. It does not receive your name, email, the answers you give, anything you say during a game, or your payment card details. RevenueCat’s handling of this data is governed by RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
Data stored on your device
Your purchased decks, your progress, and your settings are stored locally on your device. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us.
Children
Closer is intended for adults in relationships and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page.
One change is planned, and this policy will be updated to describe it before it goes live:
- Branch to measure how people find and install the app. When added, it will be disclosed here, including what it collects and how to opt out where required.
Branch is not in use yet.
